Stress Hyperglycemia as a Prognostic Indicator in Non-Diabetic Myocardial Infarction Patients
نویسنده
چکیده
The present study aims to find out prognostic importance of stress hyperglycemia and incidence of various complications in patients of Acute myocardial infarction (MI) without diabetes mellitus. Method: We studied 50 patients admitted with acute MI without previous diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose level were estimated at time of admission and regularly thereafter. Glycosylated hemoglobin was estimated at the time of admission to rule out diabetes. Based on the blood glucose level at time of admission, patients in the study were divided into two groups i.e. Group A (patients with blood glucose level 140 mg/dl). Incidence of various complications of MI and mortality was compared between two groups. Results: Incidence of heart failure in group B patients was 52% as compared to group A patients with 36% incidence (p value Conclusion: Stress hyperglycemia is common in patients of acute myocardial infarction. Patient with stress hyperglycemia have more adverse events including heart failure, arrhythmias, heart block, re-infarction and mortality. So it is advised that in all patients with AMI, blood glucose level should be estimated at time of admission to prognosticate and for early initiation of appropriate preventive measures.

Background: Myocardial infarction is the most important cause of mortality all over the world. Complications may increase with some risk factors including stress hyperglycemia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation and importance of hyperglycemia in acute intrahospital complications after AMI. Methods: Prevalence of stress hyperglycemia among 160 patients with acute myocardial...

متن کاملPrognostic Impact of Hyperglycemia in Nondiabetic and Diabetic Patients With ST-Elevation–Myocardial Infarction: Insights From Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Previous studies have suggested that hyperglycemia on admission is a risk factor for increased mortality in patients with acute ST-elevation–myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, data regarding the relationship between hyperglycemia and myocardial damage in STEMI are scarce. This largest cardiac magnetic resonance study to date evaluating the relationship of diabetes mellitus status and eleva...

Background and Objective: Coronary artery disease is the main cause of death in most societies, which is fatal symbol of acute myocardial infarction. Early diagnosis and treatment of this disease is the greatest impact on survival. But the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction has always been a challenge, particularly in elderly patients due to atypical manifestation. Since a large proportio...

Background: Elevated serum glucose levels during hospital admission for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have been associated with an increased risk of adverse short-term outcomes in diabetic patients recent studies have suggested that hyperglycemia is also associated with an increased risk of various clinical complications and death in non-diabetic patients (Capes, 2000; Wahab, 2002; Sewardse...
